A good practice guide: This guide developed by the Institute of Directors and WorkSafe New Zealand and released in July 2024 supports directors to actively play their part to improve health and safety outcomes. The guide provides clear support and examples including an example Board report.

Guidance for CEOs and Directors: This research from Australian company director and Adjunct Professor, Dr Kirstin Ferguson into the role of directors and senior executives in safety leadership and governance offers valuable insights into actions senior leaders can take to keep their people safe from harm and to meet their due diligence obligations.

Working towards Better Governance
Report: The Better Governance project was led by the Forum and GM Safety Forum with support from WorkSafe New Zealand and the Institute of Directors in 2022 to understand why health and safety governance performance has stalled in New Zealand. This report, published in early 2023 delivers a vision for health and safety governance alongside a set of principles that Boards and Officers can use to guide their health and safety governance practices. It also made a series of recommendations for action and change.
