LIFT CAPABILITY, IMPROVE CLARITY AND H&S STEWARDSHIP – FORUM’S CALL TO MINISTER
In its submission to the Minister of Workplace Relations and Safety’s health and safety review, the Business Leaders’ Health and Safety Forum is calling for seven changes to significantly improve the country’s health and safety performance.
On behalf of the Forum’s 425+ CEO members, its submission outlines three key areas that are currently costing New Zealand businesses and workers:
- the absence of supporting regulations and guidance is leaving businesses unclear about their responsibilities
- NZ’s regulatory practices are overly reactive, ineffectively focused and lack appropriate inspectorate capability and capacity
- there is a longstanding absence of agency stewardship by MBIE as the lead policy agency and WorkSafe NZ as the primary regulator across the entire system.
